A native of Greenville, SC, Drew Conley grew up on the campus of Bob Jones University, where his parents served in the Fine Arts department. His father, Jim Conley, also served as pastor of Heritage Bible Church many years. Drew double majored in Bible and Art in college, and it was not until his junior year that he realized God’s call to the pastoral ministry. Significantly, the topic of study at the time was expository preaching. From that moment on, exposing and applying what God’s Word says (rather than using the Bible as a jumping off point) became his core preaching conviction. He completed a B.A. in Bible, an M.A. in Bible, and a Ph.D. in Theology, then embarked on a church planting effort in Irmo, SC, a suburb of Columbia, resulting in the start of Kennerly Road Baptist Church. He pastored there nine years before accepting the call in 2000 to come back to his hometown to serve as associate pastor and then senior pastor of Hampton Park Baptist Church. He still seeks to preach “Life by the Book” with the desire that what we read of the church in the New Testament becomes a living reality in the body life of Hampton Park. Because the main theme of the Scriptures is the gospel of redemption, and because the Hero of the epic is Jesus Christ, life by the book is ultimately all about Jesus and making Him known. On days off and during vacations Drew enjoys hunting and art work, along with spending extra time with his wife, Mary Ellen, and their two sons, Matthew (19) and Andrew (14).
