January magazine covers and websites promise help with “New Year’s Resolutions You Can Actually Keep.” The top ten resolutions vary little from year to year: spend less, save more, lose weight, get fit, get organized, get a better job, get out of debt, be on time, help others, learn something new. Perhaps we should just call them January Hopes and Dreams, because by the time February arrives we sometimes can’t even find our lists!
If I could ask Jesus to fill out such a list for me, I wonder what He would write there. But if I pay attention to His Word, I don’t have to wonder long. Just before He was to die He told His disciples, “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” Even to His enemies, the Pharisees, He made very clear what is supreme: “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” So, while my typical resolutions might have some merit, Jesus’ list for me would be far different. A Scripture-driven, Christ-pleasing list must begin with attention to His greatest commands. The Bible is permeated, saturated, with the command to love, and it cannot be ignored. What is most encouraging is the command to love is motivated by the supreme example of love, God Himself and enabled by the work of God the Holy Spirit in our lives. We are commanded to love, motivated to love, and enabled to love because of and through the work of Jesus on our behalf!
Please join us at our Ladies’ Bible Study as we look into God’s Word and learn what it means to live by this command. Beginning Wednesday, February 1, at 9:15 a.m., we will work through the book Love Links: Linking the Law of Christ to Daily Life, a new study written for us by “our own” Ginny Hartman. We have already been richly blessed by Ginny’s accurate, insightful teaching of Scripture truth, and we look forward to this journey with her. If you cannot attend Wednesday mornings, please join us on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m., beginning February 2.
With many thanks to a loving group of Hampton Park ladies, we offer child care at no charge for infants and preschoolers during the Wednesday morning sessions and a monitored study hall so that homeschooling moms can attend. Please see below for additional information or call the church office at 232-5691 to answer any questions you may have.
Bring your friends with you, bring your Bible and a heart willing to be challenged and changed. If you have never attended Bible study, I extend a special invitation to you to put it on your new year’s list and join us! We would love to get to know you and rejoice together in the Lord of love and life.
With love to you,
Mary Ellen Conley
Ladies’ Bible Study Information
Is the Ladies’ Bible Study limited to those who attend Hampton Park?
Not at all! We welcome anyone in the community and any out-of-town guests you may have. Please bring friends and neighbors.
Is child care available?
Yes, we provide care in the Hampton Park nursery at no charge for infants and preschoolers during the Wednesday morning sessions, beginning at 8:30 a.m.. We are not able to provide child care for the Thursday evening sessions.
What time does Bible study begin and how many weeks will the study meet?
The Wednesday morning sessions begin at 9:15 a.m. with discussion groups, followed by the lesson at 10:10. (If you cannot make it by 9:15, please feel free to come later for the lesson.) We will meet for 12 weeks, from February 1 until April 25 (but will not meet April 4, the Wednesday before Easter). The Thursday evening sessions meet from 7 to 8 p.m., February 2 until April 26 (not meeting April 5). Both the Wednesday and Thursday studies meet in the Blue Room of the Yearick Center on the church campus.
When and where will the Homeschool Study Hall meet?
Students should bring study materials (and may bring a snack) and will meet in the lower level of the auditorium building, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
When and where do I get the study guide?
You can purchase Love Links, a new study by Ginny Hartman, at the first meeting or in the church Ministry Center or office before then. The cost for this spiral bound book is $5. For the first week, we will cover Lesson One. You will receive a schedule card to enable you to easily follow the study sequence.
How early is the Blue Room open each week?
The Blue Room will be open at 8:30 a.m. each Wednesday, with hot beverages provided. You are invited to spend that time alone or with others for fellowship, prayer or study.
How do I find the Blue Room?
The Blue Room is on the upper level of the Yearick Center. From either entrance off of State Park Road, drive up the hill to the parking lot and park at the end closest to the doors marked “Offices.” A short walk will take you to the front doors of the Yearick Center, and the Blue Room will be immediately on your right.
How do I join a discussion group?
Discussion groups provide fellowship and encouragement from ladies in similar seasons of life, as well as insight and help from those of different ages and backgrounds. You may wish to participate in the discussion of the Scripture we are studying—or you are most welcome to listen! The discussion groups will form at the first session. If you are a newcomer, you may wish to be in a group with someone you know, or we will help you find a place when you come. If you are returning to Bible study, you are welcome to return to your same group or to join another table. You may pick up your name tag in the entry area and join the discussion group you choose. Some people want to continue building relationships already begun, while others like to meet new people and get to know those of other ages such as the pattern seen in Titus chapter 2. We thank the Lord for the friendships formed around the tables and the fellowship in His Word that we enjoy each week. We want you to be comfortable, but we want to be available for the Lord’s purpose in others’ lives and to let Him use them in our own.
Who are the discussion group leaders?
The group leaders are ladies from the Hampton Park membership: Millie Butts, Jayne Dodd, Tricia Hulehan, Ashley Joiner, Marilyn Kinkade, Dawn Lennon, Shelly Moorehead, Dottie Oberholzer, Dawn Salle, Sue Steveson, and Karen Wooster. Ruth Coleman, Mary Ellen Conley and Ginny Hartman will teach both the Wednesday morning and Thursday evening sessions.
How do I find the nursery?
From State Park Road, turn onto the church property at the entrance marked by the stone sign. Follow the road that goes up the hill beside the athletic field. Halfway up the hill you will see double glass doors that will lead you right to the nursery, just down the hall to the left. You may leave your car there while you take your child into the nursery, but we ask that you not leave it there during the Bible study. Follow the road up the hill, then to the right and down to the end of the parking lot where you will see the office wing and be near the Blue Room.
