It is our hope that the music ministry at Hampton Park does not exist simply because it is expected. Rather, the music ministry exists by absolute necessity because our musical praise to God is the natural product of our thankfulness and joy for his character and gracious works revealed in the Scriptures. Consequently, our music ministry has two major points of emphasis. 1. Singing exegetically: This simply means that we sing according to the truth being taught from the Scriptures. Music selections are not chosen for musical qualities alone. Musical selections are chosen as an effective reinforcement for the truths of the gospel we are learning from the preaching of God's Word. 2. Singing congregationally: The New Testament teaching on the musical praise of God reveals that it should be interactive. (Eph. 5:19 - "addressing one another in psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs"; Col. 3:16 - "teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs"). Our singing is about God to one another. Other music ministries (choirs, ensembles, solos, instrumentals) find their rightful place under the primacy of congregational singing.
